Tri-County Restaurant

Tri-County Restaurant is located off I-44 at exit 251. It used to be a truck stop on Rt 66 and is considered a historical building. It's an older Art-Deco style building that looks mildly run down from the outside but has some awesome food within. Check out the lamp posts outside as you stretch your legs. Very cool! Plenty of places to park a bike and still be able to see it from within also.

WARNING!! Don't come here is you're looking for granola and alfalfa sprouts. Nothing but good old artery clogging truck stop food and well made at that. Breakfast is served the entire time their open. One of the few places where the eggs you get are the ones you order. In other words if you order over-easy eggs, you get over-easy eggs, not medium or over-hard. Yes, it's a pet peeve of mine. The sausage patties are homemade and incredibly awesome. The best I've ever had in fact. Loads of flavor. Hash browns are freshly made from real potatoes, not the mix a lot of places use. The pancakes are great, fluffy and tasty, not doughy.

Sometimes the food takes a little longer to get to you, only one cook. However it's worth the wait. We have yet to have anything bad here. Altho they do use margerine instead of butter (pet peeve of the OL!).

We've been here several times and have eyed the buffet every time but have yet to try it. The buffet is extensive, fresh, and well kept. There is a large selection of home-made pies also. They recently replaced the old drink dispenser with a brand new one and they serve Pepsi products.

The waitresses are typical truck stop waitresses, full of humor, hitting you with lots of Hey Honey, whacha want babe?, quick on the refills, capable of handling anyone from the surliest to the nicest. We've come in here covered in sweat and dirt from a long ride, rain soaked, just fresh from waking up, and have been treated great every time.

The building is under a slow rehab and they are being careful to retain the Art-Deco look (and we're glad they are). The rest rooms are large and well kept; ladies, they even have a full length mirror to help ya fix that helmet hair and adjust the chaps. They also sell a small variety of keepsakes.
